Mi vs CSK: Ayush Mhatre debut vs Mumbai Indians Photograph: (X)
17-year-old Ayush Mhatre made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday. The right-handed batter was playing against the Mumbai Indians (MI) in front of his home crowd at the Wankhede Stadium. Mhatre was signed as a replacement for Ruturaj Gaikwad after undergoing a trial with the former IPL champions.
Rachin Ravindra’s early wicket got the young batter to the crease. On the fourth ball of Ashwani Kumar’s opening over, Mhatre hit the pacer straight down the ground for a boundary. On the very next ball, the 17-year-old played a pick-up shot that saw the ball sail over the mid-on region.
On the last ball of the fourth over, Kumar bowled a short ball that Mhatre pulled for six just like his idol, Rohit Sharma. Watch the youngster bat; CSK skipper MS Dhoni had a huge smile on his face. At the end of the powerplay, CSK had reached 46 runs for the loss of one wicket.

Chennai Super Kings off to great start vs MI
Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to bowl first, with Karn Sharma missing due to injury, Ashwani Kumar was recalled. Rohit Sharma started the game on the bench and is expected to feature an impact player. Chennai just made one change as Mhatre came in for Rahul Tripathi.
The first two overs of the game produced just eight runs as Deepak Chahar and Trent Boult kept the CSK batters quiet. The first boundary of the game came in the final ball of the third over when Shaik Rasheed hit Chahar through the mid-wicket region. Rachin Ravindra became the first wicket to fall when he went for aggressive shot and was caught behind by Ryan Rickelton.
After getting off to a great start with the bat, Mhatre continued to attack the MI bowlers. The right-handed batter then hit Chahar for three fours during the course of his knock. Fans who had come to watch the game were left marveling at the talent shown by Mhatre who earned plaudits for his batting from the commentators.
