New Zealand star Glenn Phillips suffered a massive injury on his first appearance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. Phillips, had come to the field as a substitute for Gujarat Titans (GT) in the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday. The incident in question happened in the fourth ball of the sixth over of SRH’s batting innings.

Prasidh Krishna was bowling to Ishan Kishan and the batter set off looking for a quick single. Phillips, who was fielding at point was quick to get to the ball and throw towards the stumps and crumbled to the floor in pain. GT’s physio was quick to rush out as there was a brief stoppage in play with Phillips clutching his groin. The Kiwi star was helped off the field before play could resume.
Sunrisers Hyderabad were put into bat after Shubman Gill won the toss on Sunday. The Titans came into the game on the back of their two successive wins. SRH on the other hand have endured a poor start to the season with three successive losses. This woeful run of form has seen SRH slip to bottom of the table.
Nitish Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen lead SRH’s fightback
Titans’ pacer Mohammed Siraj struck two early blows to put the home team under pressure. The 31-year-old first got the wicket of Travis Head for eight runs caught by Sai Sudharsan in the first over of the game. Siraj then got his second wicket of the day when he had Abhishek Sharma caught by Rahul Tewatia for 18 to claim his 100th IPL wicket.
Ishan Kishan who has been an enduring a woeful time with the bat could only score 17 runs on Sunday. The 26-year-old was out caught by Ishant Sharma off Prasidh Krishna to reduce the hosts to 50 for the loss of three wickets in the eight over. Nitish Reddy was joined by Klaasen as the pair added 50 runs for the fourth wicket,
Klaasen scored 27 runs from just 19 balls with two fours and a six before he was sent back to the hut by R Sai Kishore in the 14th over. Klaasen was beaten for pace by the left-arm spinner as Sai Kishore got his first wicket. The 28-year-old struck again to dismiss Reddy for 31 caught by Rashid Khan as the hosts went into the second time-out at 105 for five in the 16th over.
