Team India will begin their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign when they take on Ireland on the 5th June. Outgoing Indian coach Rahul Dravid will want to end his stint on a high and hope to bring the elusive ICC to India for the first time in nearly a dozen years. India have already lost two ICC finals in 2023 on both occasions to Australia.

Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly who shared the dressing room with Rahul Dravid has a massive piece of advice. The 51-year-old has asked Rahul Dravid to not put himself and the team under too much stress and play the tournament with any fear.

Sourav Ganguly was recently in chat with RevSportz and gave the example of the 2003 ODI World Cup final to illustrate his point. The men in blue got into the groove for the upcoming tournament with an easy win over Bangladesh in the only warm-up game on Saturday.

Sourav Ganguly wants India to play with freedom

During his chat with RevSportz, former Indian skipper and once BCCI head honcho Sourav Ganguly has asked the Indian team to ease up. Ganguly said “If I can say something to Rahul [Dravid] and, make no mistake, he is a champion cricketer and cricket brain, it will be to relax a little”

Citing the example of Rohit Sharma’s wife or Virat Kohli’s wife Anushka Sharma, the former Indian cricket legend spoke about the pressure players put themselves into. “When I see Rohit’s wife in the stands, it is evident how much pressure she is under. When I see Virat’s wife, I see the kind of pressure she is feeling."

Sourav Ganguly recounted how the players felt during the 2003 ODI World Cup of which he was the captain. “We in India make this mistake of pushing too much. I think back to the 2003 [World Cup] final, for example. If anything, we need to relax when we are playing the big games. Just play with freedom."

The 2024 T20 World Cup will give India a chance to win an ICC tournament for the first time since 2013. Their last big win was the 2013 Champions Trophy under MS Dhoni and the closest they came to a title was late last year. India under Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid had reached the finals of the ODI World Cup before losing to Australia in Ahmedabad.
