Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly has come up with a big statement just ahead of the start of India’s ICC T20 World Cup 2024 campaign. Ganguly spoke in length about the ‘dos or don’ts’ for Team India to make the contention strong in the marquee international tournament. meanwhile, the former BCCI chief also spoke about the former skipper and the modern-day batting, Virat Kohli.

He also emphasized the impact of Virat Kohli’s performance and batting order on Team India’s performance to advance to the later stages of the tournament. Notably, Kohli was the highest run-scorer in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League 2024, with scoring 700+ runs in the season.

Ganguly also expressed his desire about who should be there to open the innings for India during the prestigious cricket biennial.

“I would open with Virat and Rohit. I want Virat to bat the way he did for RCB in the second half of the IPL. He has to bat with freedom. Needless to say, he is a great player, but for India to do well, Virat will have to bat with freedom like he did in the IPL. So my choice would be Virat and Rohit at the top of the order,” said Ganguly to Revsportz.

Furthermore, the former skipper also backed the men in blue to give their best in the tournament; he also spoke about a few tactical concerns, working on which might work in the favour of Rohit Sharma’s men during the World Cup in the USA and West Indies.

“Absolutely, I do [back the team]. The team has a number of quality players who are going into the tournament on the back of some serious T20 cricket in the form of the IPL. That should help them in New York. What will also go in their favour are the bigger grounds, and it will help our spinners, for example. In a World Cup, you can never rule out India just because of the simple reason there is a lot of quality in the team,” he said.
