The International Cricket Council has appointed three members to probe the alleged financial fraud during the T20 World Cup 2024 tournament. For New Zealand batter Roger Twose has been appointed along with Lawson Naidoo and Imran Khawaja. The apex cricket body has given the trio all the independence to look into the matter.

Every member of the ICC has given their go-ahead for the investigation to be done. The ICC has a nagging suspicion that the tournament could be having some financial irregularities.

West Indies hosted the tournament for the second time after hosting it in 2010. United States of America on the other hand hosted the event for the first time and made it to the Super-8 stages of the campaign.

ICC Official has his say on the issue

News18 put out a quote from an unnamed ICC source which said, “It was unanimously decided to give the committee a free hand to conduct the review. There is a bright possibility of an external company conducting a thorough audit of the 2024 T20 World Cup. Every detail will be looked into and every transaction will be checked.”

Chris Tetley and Claire Furlong have already served their papers after the news came to light. It is a huge issue as far as the reputation of the sport is concerned and the ICC aren’t leaving anything unturned to get to the bottom of the issue.

The ICC official also said, “Two ICC employees have already submitted their resignations but the committee will look into their roles during the World Cup. The committee will be given a free hand to decide whether there is a need to place under suspension or restrict access to work. The idea is to not have any sort of hindrance or roadblocks during the investigation.”

The source also said, “Not only there is a need to do the right thing but also to ensure that the ICC is also as doing the right thing. As the global governing body of the game, the ICC is accountable to its members and fans all over the world. Transparency has to be the key at all times and unfortunately, it was missing in many ways all this while.”
