The much-awaited ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is just a few hours away as the tournament is set to kick off on June 2, with the inaugural match between the co-hosts USA and Canada at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on 6.00 AM (Indian Standard Time). The eyes of all experts and fans will be on some world-class batters and bowlers who will be featured in the marquee international tournament.

Besides these, some brilliant all-rounders will also be there to showcase their amazing bowling and batting prowess in the prestigious cricket biennial.

Here we’ll look at the top 5 all-rounders in the history of the T20 World Cup since its inception 17 years back in 2007.

5. Mohammad Nabi – Afghanistan

The veteran Afghanistan all-rounder has played 22 matches so far in his T20 World Cup career, he has been one of the key performers for the Afghan side in the T20 World Cup since he started playing for his side in the third edition of the tournament in 2010 World T20. Nabi has also played 11 matches for Afghanistan as a skipper in the T20 World Cup career of 22 matches so far.

Nabi has scored 292 runs with the bat in 22 innings and has also scalped 19 wickets after bowling 19 wickets after bowling 71 overs in his T20 World Cup career. The former Afghan skipper ranks 5th in this list of all-time great all-rounders in the history of the tournament.

4. Shane Watson – Australia

Former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson played for Australia in the T20 World Cup from the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2007 to 2016 across 6 editions. Throughout these editions, he played 24 matches and batted in 22 innings, alongside bowling 75.2 overs in his World T20 career.

Watson scored 537 runs in 22 innings with an average of 28.26 and scalped 22 wickets to rank in the fourth spot on this list of the all-time great all-rounders in the tournament’s history.

3. Dwayne Bravo – West Indies

Former two-time World T20 champion Caribbean all-rounder, Dwayne Bravo appeared in the 7 editions of the tournament from the inaugural in 2007 to the seventh edition in 2021. He played in 34 matches, with batting in 30 innings and bowling 88.4 overs.

Bravo scored 530 runs in 30 innings, alongside scalping 27 wickets in 88.4 overs, with a bowling average of 28.96. After calling time on his international career, Bravo still ranks third in this list of the top 5 all-rounders in the World T20 history.

2. Shahid Afridi – Pakistan

Former legendary Pakistan all-rounder and ex-skipper, Shahid Afridi was one of the all-time greats in the history of the T20 World Cup since its inception in 2007. Notably, Afridi also won the ‘Player of the Tournament award in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2007, in South Africa.

Speaking of his overall performances throughout his T20 World Cup career, Afridi scored 546 runs in 32 innings of the 34 matches he played, alongside scalping 39 wickets after bowling 135 overs, with a bowling average of 23.26

1. Shakib Al Hasan – Bangladesh

The veteran Bangladesh all-rounder and former skipper, Shakib Al Hasan is one of the only two players in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, who have been appearing in the World T20 since the tournament’s inaugural edition in 2007. The other player other than him achieving this feat is none other than the India skipper Rohit Sharma.

Coming back to Shakib Al Hasan, he has been undoubtedly the greatest all-rounder of all time in the history of the tournament. Shakib has scored 742 runs in 35 innings of the 36 matches he played. The stalwart has also scalped 47 wickets with the ball, being the highest wicket-taker in the history of the tournament. Notably, the former Bangladesh skipper is only the second player to play the highest number of matches in T20 World Cup history with  36 matches, just behind India skipper Sharma who has played 39 matches so far from 2007 to 2022.
