‘I was too nervous to approach Virat Kohli’ - Australian actor Charlie Vickers recalls encounter with batting stalwart

Charlie Vickers, who is famous for his character in 'The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power', opened up about his admiration for Virat Kohli. The former Indian cricket team captain has a huge fan following across the globe, thanks to his on-field heroics and tremendous achievements over the years.

In an interview with News18, the Australian actor revealed that he is a cricket fan and his favourite player outside the Australian team is Virat Kohli. Charlie also revealed the encounter he had with the batting stalwart at a hotel in Auckland. He described the moment as “surreal” and that he was nervous to approach him.

“I once walked by Virat Kohli in a hotel in Auckland, and that was really surreal. So, I’ll say him because of that encounter,” Charlie said when asked about his favourite cricketer. “No, I was too nervous (to greet him).”

Brett Lee is my window into Bollywood: Charlie on his connection with Indian cinema 

The fantasy series actor also talked about Indian cinema and former Australia cricketer Brett Lee introduced him to Bollywood. For the unversed, Lee is a also singer and has sung a song with legendary Bollywood singer Asha Bhosle in 2006.

“I’ve never had the chance to explore Indian cinema, but my only way into Bollywood has been through cricketers because cricket is so massive in India, and I’m a big cricket fan in Australia. There was an Australian fast bowler named Brett Lee, who became quite big in the Bollywood scene as a musician. Brett Lee is my window into Bollywood; I have to learn more about it,” he said.

Notably, the cast of ‘The Lord of the Rings’ series visited India during the promotion of the first season. However, Charlie was unable to join them as he was in Mexico at the time.

“I was in Mexico City when they were in Mumbai, and it was an amazing trip to Mexico City. But the Mumbai trip, that half of the cast, speaks so fondly of their time there. It’s become famous among the cast for how good the trip was,” he added.
