22-year-old young pacer Mayank Yadav made an impressive debut in the international set-up against Bangladesh in the 1st T20I game in Gwalior. The Bangladesh batters found him difficult to play, and the first over went for a maiden. In the 2nd over, he claimed his first wicket in T20Is. Talking about the young bowler and his potential, former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali expressed his views on taking Mayank to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Mayank maintains his pace along with the line and length, which are crucial for any bowler.

"It was a dream debut for Mayank Yadav. He started off with a maiden and even clocked 149.9 kmph. He has come from an injury, which is why his speeds have not been 157 or 158. If you saw the match, batters did not play him on the front foot. Imagine if he’d been given the new ball instead of Hardik Pandya. I hope he remains fit and goes to Australia," said Basit Ali.

His pace and swing can be extremely helpful in Australia. However, his fitness will be a concern for the selectors if they think of taking him to Australia along with Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and other senior bowlers. It will be a good opportunity for the 22-year-old bowler to understand and feel the pressure of the situation in foreign land.

He asked me to rely on my stalk ball: Mayank Yadav

After a terrific performance, Mayank spoke about the advice he got from captain Suryakumar Yadav during the match. Skipper asked Mayank not to experiment much and go with the regular deliveries, which he did. He did pretty good results in the match. He kept on changing his pace according to the situation, which allowed him to confuse the batters.

"I did bowl the slower ones in the IPL as well but not much. I had a word with my captain and he asked me to rely on my stalk ball more than trying out variations. But coming to Gwalior, the wicket didn't have much bounce so I changed my pace accordingly," said Mayank Yadav.

Mayank was brutal during the IPL 2024, where he consistently clocked around 150 Kmph deliveries, however, he was ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. But now, as he has recovered and also made his international debut, he can become one of the most lethal bowlers of the current era, under the guidance of Morne Morkel.
