It has been over 24 hours since R. Ashwin shocked the world with his decision to retire from international cricket. The entire cricketing fraternity were left numb after Ashwin announced his decision at the end of the Brisbane Test match on Wednesday. The 38-year-old is back home and was given a rousing welcome on his return back home.
Ashwin’s father spoke to the media and made a comment which has now started new questions about the hasty decision. Mr. Ravichandran while speaking to CNN News 18 and made a huge statement. Ashwin’s father used to word ‘humiliation’ which has now created new debate amongst the fans.
Mr. Ravichandran while speaking to CNN News 18 said, “I too came to know last minute, actually. “Retiring is Ashwin’s wish and desire, I cannot interfere in that, but the way in which he gave that, there could be many reasons. Only Ashwin knows, maybe humiliation.”
Was R. Ashwin’s decision to retire due to outside factors?
Mr. Ravichandran also said, “Definitely, no doubt about it because he was on the field for 14-15 years. The sudden change – retirement – gave us really kind of a shock. At the same time, we were expecting it because humiliation was going on. How long he can tolerate all those things? Probably, he would have decided on his own.”
According to various reports doing the rounds, Ashwin revealed his decision to retire to his close ones on Tuesday. It was only on Wednesday that each and every member of the team that is in Australia were made aware of the impending decision. Ashwin and Virat Kohli were seen having a long chat with the former Indian spinner getting emotional.
Cameras panned to the dressing room as Kohli was seen hearing the veteran star. The pair then shared a huge before departing. When the match was eventually called off, Ashwin went to address the media for the last time with skipper Rohit Sharma.
Ashwin’s father also said that he wasn’t sure what his was thinking as he said to the media, “What was going on in his mind I don’t know. He just announced. I too accepted it with full pleasure. I did not have any feeling at all for that. But the way he gave his retirement, one part I was very happy, another part not happy because he should have continued,"
