Former Australian batting great Allan Border has expressed concerns over Virat Kohli’s continued failures with the bat. Former cricket stars were appalled with the similar pattern of dismissals that India’s former skipper has been falling to in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Josh Hazlewood tempted Kohli with an away-going ball that the batter poked at and was out caught behind in the 3rd Test at the Gabba.

Speaking to Fox Cricket, former Australian skipper and batting great Allan Border said, “Today’s dismissal—that’s normally a delivery he would have left alone if he was in his best possible form. I’m not sure what’s going on with Virat mentally and whether he’s just lost that edge.”

Virat Kohli has often been targeted outside his off-stump over the last few years. Even in the previous match, he was out twice, nicking behind. Former England skipper Michael Vaughan said that Kohli has been getting out in a bid to dominate the bowlers. Sunil Gavaskar had echoed the same sentiments where the former batter asked Kohli to give himself time.

Michael Vaughan said on Fox Cricket, “He’s a player who’s going out there and almost trying to get on top too soon. When he plays at his best, particularly in Australia and England, when the ball does a little bit more, he just leaves the ball. Most of his dismissals in this series have been balls that he could have left."

Allan Border praises Jasprit Bumrah for his bowling exploits

One player who has got huge words from the former Aussie great is none other than Jasprit Bumrah. The 31-year-old got huge words of praise from Border for his exploits in the series so far, which have seen him nick 18 wickets so far. In the first innings of the ongoing Brisbane Test, Bumrah picked up 6 wickets for 76 runs.

Speaking to News Corp, Allan Border said, “I can't properly compare him to Marshall because I never faced Bumrah, but just watching him, there is not much between them. Bumrah is remarkable. He rarely bowls a spell without taking a wicket. He is different."

Just a few days ago, Border had also made a huge statement on Mohammed Siraj on Star Sports where he said, “Mohammed Siraj is like Virat Kohli. He can get the crowd up, and I like his aggression. He is a captain’s delight, and you want a fast bowler to be aggressive. This guy doesn’t give up and seems to me a very impressive fast bowler.”
