Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli is facing the glare of the media after his mediocre performances during the Australian tour. The 36-year-old scored just 190 runs from nine innings with one century. Fans and cricket experts were aghast as Kohli was out in similar fashion on eight occasions during the recent Border Gavaskar Trophy.
Republic Media Network’s managing editor and editor in chief, Arnab Goswami, hosted a debate on the Indian cricket crisis. Arnab, who is known to be upfront with his views, didn’t mince his words while speaking about Virat Kohli during the prelude to the debate. The veteran broadcaster began by saying, “As of tonight, this silly superstar culture is the biggest disease.”

Veteran scribe Arnab Goswami also said, “The biggest affliction of the Indian cricket team. The under-performing, non-performing, utterly non-performing Indian cricket team has the worst record in terms of what they perform. But they have the maximum number of superstars.”
Arnab Goswami slams Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir
Ever since their return to India, players who failed to perform during the recent tour of Australia have been facing the heat. Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Rishabh Pant are likely to feature in the next round of Ranji matches starting on 23rd January. While Rohit has retired from the T20I format, Jaiswal and Pant weren’t considered for selection. The move comes after Gautam Gambhir asked the players to take domestic cricket seriously.
Virat Kohli, on the other hand, is yet to confirm his participation as the Delhi Cricket Board waits for Kohli’s answer. Speaking about this, Arnab Goswami said on his channel, “Virat Kohli is in no position to even demand a place in the team. He should be thrown out of the team on performance.”
Arnab added, “But his PR team has gone on overdrive, defending him, attacking others, war, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli fighting each other? Non-performers at war”. The veteran journalist also called out some of the cricketing scribes for their ‘PR roles'. Goswami also called the game a local sport for its non-visibility on the global stage.
“The reality is, Virat Kohli’s attitude is inversely proportional to his scores. What is his performance beyond one tonne? Kohli has scored with an average of 11 runs each time he came out to play in Australia. Then we keep saying, Oh, one day, the king will be back. What king? You are a non-performing cricketer, “said Arnab Goswami while speaking about Kohli’s run of scores in Australia.
“Virat, as for him, he is a disaster these days. Gautam Gambhir is no better, and they are fighting each other, and Virat is taking the attention away. So is Gambhir from their record, and they have placed themselves in the middle of a do-or-die battle with Kohli. Two camps, two sets of PR,” Arnab Goswami further added.
