India's ace bowler Akash Deep praised captain Rohit Sharma for trusting him in red-ball cricket. Akash was stunning with the ball in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024. Even though he didn't get many wickets, he didn't allow the Australian batters to settle down, which was really necessary to put pressure on the opponents. Rohit supported him and kept on advising him on what to do throughout the series.
"Rohit bhaiya (Sharma) had a lot of trust in me that I can take wickets anytime, 'Woh bolte hain ki mujhko lagta hai tum har ball pe wicket le sakte ho' (You can take wicket on every delivery). I would be given a brief that in case I am not getting wickets, I should do the holding job at one end, slow down the game and run flow so that things are under control," said Akash Deep during an interview with PTI.
India lost the BGT series after almost a decade, 1-3, which was pretty disappointing. With the series loss, India were out of the World Test Champions (WTC) 2025 finals. Australia made their way to the Lord's, where they'll play against South Africa. India and Sri Lanka both were eliminated from the WTC finals.
You can learn a lot from what he is doing: Akash Deep
Akash Deep revealed what he learned from India's star bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, during the BGT series. Bumrah was just phenomenal throughout the series and became an inspiration for many young bowlers. He claimed 32 wickets in just nine innings. He was the nightmare for the Australian batters, who were elated on hearing the news of his absence from the final innings of the series.
"You can learn a lot from what he (Jasprit Bumrah) is doing and what I should be doing from the other end. There are little things that he (Bumrah) kept on telling me and it became easier for me to operate," said Akash Deep.
