Former India spinner R. Ashwin has taunted Harry Brook for his ‘smog’ comment after the first T20I in Kolkata. The batter made a curious comment after the first T20I in Kolkata after being dismissed by Varun Chakravarthy. The 25-year-old while speaking to Daily Telegraph said “Chakaravarthy is an exceptionally good bowler. But with the smog the other night, it was a lot harder to pick. Hopefully the air is a bit clearer here and we can see the ball a bit easier."
Ashwin addressed the batter on his YouTube channel and said “There was no smog in Chennai. So, Harry Brook said he got out because of smog at Eden Gardens. I just want to tell one thing to Harry Brook - 'Harry Brook, keep this thing in mind that Varun Chakravarthy does not bowl leg-spin much, his main strength is googlies only”
England are set to play the third T20I in Rajkot on Tuesday after losing the first two games of the series. Jos Buttler’s side has to win the match if they have to keep their series alive. Varun Chakravarthy dismissed Brook for second successive time in Chennai for 13 runs during the second match on Saturday.
Ashwin imparts wisdom to Harry Brook ahead of 3rd T20I
Speaking on his YouTube Channel, R. Ashwin said “Brook moved towards the leg-stump and got bowled out at Eden Gardens. Again, he covered the stumps and went on the front foot, he did not read the googly and lost his stumps in Chennai. If you see his hand, you can read the googly. It doesn't matter how the light is, if you don't see the googly coming, you won't be able to play it."
Former Indian stars Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri had aimed a dig at the young batter for his comments recently. Ravi Shastri who was on commentary duties when Brook was dismissed was heard saying “You don't need the smog. Once again, it is Varun Chakravarthy. This has sneaked through, and it's crashed into the stumps,"
Sunil Gavaskar chimed in and said “You said it, you said it. The light is clearer here. In Kolkata, there was some smog. No smog here. Had no idea where the ball was going. Harry Brook gone for 13. Chakravarthy is maybe asking, 'Is there any smog there'?”
