Marco Jansen was the unlikely hero with the bat as he guided South Africa home to reach the Semi-Finals of the T20 World Cup in Antigua on Sunday. It was the end of the dream for the home team who had battled hard during the game to stay alive in the tournament.

Batting first West Indies could score only 135 on the board with Roston Chase scoring a half-century. Tabraiz Shamsi was the best bowler with 3 wickets as the pitch was starting to aid the spinners.

South Africa were placed at 15/2 having lost Reeza Hendricks and Quinton De Kock to Andre Russell in a single over. Rain came down and halted play for nearly an hour as the total was re-calculated to leave the Proteas with 123 to win from 17 overs.

Once the play resumed the West Indian bowlers started to trouble the opposition. Akeal Hossein exacted pressure as the runs were hard to come by. Aiden Markram batting on 18 was dismissed by Alzarri Joseph to make it 42/3 in the 6th over.

Tristan Stubbs and Heinrich Klaasen then added 35-runs for the 4th wicket before a stunning piece of bowling got rid of Klaasen. Joseph bowled a short ball which left Klaasen fending and Nicholas Pooran took a stunning catch to dismiss the South African batter.

Roston Chase then joined the party as he bowled David Miller for 4 off 14 balls to spark new life into the contest. It was soon 100 for 6 when Stubbs fell to Chase for 29 as the South Africans needed 23 runs from 23 balls.

Keshav Maharaj and Jansen then added 10 crucial runs for the 7th wicket before Maharaj became the 3rd wicket of the night for Chase. Needing 9 runs from 7 balls, Kagiso Rabada played a picture perfect cover drive for four making it 5 runs needed from 6 balls.

The very first of the final over from Obed McCoy saw Jansen hit him over his head for a six and shriek in delight as the South Africans became the second team from Group 2 to make it to the Semi-Finals after England.
