The match between South Africa and the Netherlands in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 took a dramatic turn as the Proteas won by six wickets. Until the 18th over, the match was with the Netherlands, as South Africa required 16 runs off two overs. However, an in-form David Miller finished the match in the 19th over by hitting 16 runs off Bas de Leede. With that, he completed his half-century and saved South Africa from experiencing an upset.

South Africa was lucky enough to win the toss and chose to field first, allowing the Netherlands to put up some runs on the board. However, the Netherlands' batting attack failed miserably, scoring just 103 runs in the first innings. With the help of Sybrand Engelbrecht (40) and Logan van Beek (23), they reached the score on the board. The credits go to Ottneil Baartman for claiming four wickets and conceding just 11 runs.

In the second innings, South African batters threw their wickets at regular intervals, and by the end of the fifth over, they were 12-4. Well, in a T20 game, anything can happen, and hence, South Africa made a beautiful comeback in the middle overs and won the match by six wickets. With their effortless batting, Tristan Stubbs (33) and David Miller (59) took the team past the victory line. Vivian Kingma and Logan van Beek bowled economically, taking two wickets each.

'They made it difficult for us to score' - David Miller praises Netherlands' bowling attack

After playing a match-winning knock against the Netherlands, David Miller won the Player of the Match award. He scored 59 runs off 51 balls, including three boundaries and four sixes. During the post-match presentation, Miller praised the Netherlands bowling attack for not allowing the batters to settle down and score runs. Vivian Kingma and Logan van Beek were exceptional and almost took the match away from the Proteas. However, Miller's experience came in handy as they clinched victory.

"Wanted to tick over the scoreboard as much as we can. Can't go into a shell. They made it difficult for us to score. We just tried to ground it out as much as we could," said David Miller at the post-match presentation.
