Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria suggested that the Men in Green need a coach like Gautam Gambhir to bounce back from their recent woes. Pakistan are going through their worst phase and it became more noticeable after their first-ever Test series defeat against Bangladesh.
They had an early exit in the 2023 Asia Cup and ODI World Cup, where they even suffered an embarrassing defeat against Afghanistan. Babar Azam and Co. had a similar style outing in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where they failed to reach the semi-final after enduring a string of defeats, including against the USA.
Their fortunes remained the same even in the longer format of the game. The Bangla Tigers registered a historic victory on Pakistani soil as they whitewashed the two-match Test series. Former cricketers and fans have lambasted the Pakistan team and management mercilessly, and Kaneria is the latest to be vocal about Pakistan cricket's dire decline.
The right-arm leg-spinner feels that Pakistan need a coach like Gambhir who can take tough decisions. He pointed out that India's success is due to the presence of strong coaches like Gambhir who does not hesitate to criticise the players straight on their faces.
"Why today other teams are doing so well Why is the Indian team is doing so well? They had a Rahul Dravid who worked with the team very well now they have Gautham Gambir, a fantastic cricketer and fantastic guy. The way he reacts, he tells on the face. He doesn't go back and do backbiting; he's on the face straight away. This is how you have to be. You have to be strong, and like a strong person, you have to make the decision on the face, not at the back,” Kaneria told Republic.

The 43-year-old said that everything is taken for granted in Pakistan cricket. He also criticised the management’s move of constantly changing captains and not taking tough decisions such as dropping underperforming players from the team.
