Former West Indian star batter Chris Gayle is known worldwide as one of the most aggressive batters. The left-handed was known to be a revolutionary batter across all the formats he played. Not just in his own country, but the former Jamaican star was also loved for his approach to the game across the world.
The Jamaican legend came from a very humble background where he grew up in a small house. The former West Indian skipper had written how his parents had to work day and night to provide for himself and his five other siblings.

Despite coming from a very humble background, the young Gayle kept his focus. His aim of making it to the national West Indian side began when he was at school. Playing with his friends, the young batter began to attract attention. The young batter added 425 runs for the opening wicket of Jamaica with his best friend Leon Garrick.
From Jamaica to Universal Boss the story of Chris Gayle
In 1999 when the West Indian representative side came to India two young batters stole the show. Wavell Hinds and Chris Gayle played well to show what the two stars could do with the bat. A few months later the lanky left-handed batter from Jamaica made his ODI debut in Canada against India.
With the retirement of Carl Hooper, and Brian Lara becoming an older statesman, the onus was on Gayle. The first time the world took notice of his power-hitting was when he hit 317 in a Test match against South Africa in Antigua. His best score of 333 came against Sri Lanka during a Test match in Galle in 2010.
By this time the name of Christopher Henry Gayle became known across the globe. Fans in India became drawn to him. Especially the Bengaluru fans who loved the West Indian star for his exploits with the bat in the IPL. The score of 175 is still a record in the biggest T20 league in the world.
During a chant with Star Sports, Virat Kohli the former Indian and RCB skipper had words of praise for his former teammate. Virat Kohli said “Well Chris, I have hung out with him for so many years. I am sure that when we are in Jamaica, we will definitely go and meet Chris. He always invites the team home to have a good time and just chill out."
The former Indian skipper also said “So I am sure he is going to do the same again if he is in town. Everyone loves him. We went last time as well to his place, we had a great time and he is such a humble guy. Definitely, if he is free and he is in town, sure we are going to catch up with him."
It was quite a turnaround for Gayle who was born in the most improvised life to become a global icon. His batting and his entire outlook on the sport made him a much-loved star with millions of fans across the universe. No wonder he has aptly named himself the ‘Universal Boss’.
