Team India may have won the ODI series against England on Sunday, but the form of Virat Kohli is still a concern. Adil Rashid dismissed India’s former skipper for just five runs caught behind by Phil Salt. Former Sri Lankan legend Arjuna Ranatunga has suggested Kohli to seek help from former Indian stalwarts to iron out his flaws.
Times Now quoted (via Telegraph) Ranatunga as saying, “I think what Kohli needs to do is speak to people like Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar or a Rahul Dravid. That’s what he can do. They can certainly help him out.”
The former Sri Lankan skipper was also asked if Kohli should call time on his career, Ranatunga said, “For a player like Kohli who has scored so much of runs, I feel it’s best if that’s left to him. It’s a call that Kohli needs to take, so let him take it. Why always have the spotlight on him? It’s quite unnecessary I feel. It’s his decision, so let him take that.”
Can Kohli comeback to form in Ahmedabad?
With India having wrapped up the series, the final match in Ahmedabad will be inconsequential. For Virat Kohli though it will be a key encounter with Champions Trophy just few days away. Kohli broke his century drought in Test cricket with his century against Australia at the same venue in 2023.
Indian cricket team management and the fans will be hoping that Kohli can rediscover hi best. If Kohli fails to perform in the final match of the series not only will there be pressure on him as far as his future goes, but also about his place in India’s squad. Yashasvi Jaiswal was dropped from the XI to make way for Kohli which caused a lot of questions in the fan base.
India’s former skipper hadn’t played the opening ODI due to injury. After his ton during the Perth Test match, Virat Kohli has struggled with the bat. The 36-year-old managed to notch up just six runs on his return to Ranji Trophy for Delhi versus Railways. Virat Kohli fans will be keenly watching the game in Ahmedabad and hoping the veteran batter can post a huge score.
