It is time for Team India to hit the drawing board after their ODI series loss to Sri Lanka. Many fans were shocked after KL Rahul was dropped for the final game of the series. Rishabh Pant was brought into the team to play his first ODI match since November 2022.

Former Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal wasn’t pleased with the move and slammed the Indian team management. During a TV show, Kamran Akmal said “KL Rahul sitting out is a big surprise for me. He was an opener, you made him play as a wicketkeeper, gave him batting at 8th number”

The former Pakistani star also said, “ I don't think it was a sensible decision to drop him. If you had to sit, you could have made Dube sit. You could have made the spinner bowl at the other end with new ball.”

More voices come out in support of KL Rahul

KL Rahul found support from various voices after being dropped for the final ODI game of the series. Kamran Akmal during his chat on a TV show had blasted the Indian team management for their move to bench KL Rahul.

The right-handed batter scored 31 in the 1st ODI and followed it up with a zero in the second. KL Rahul was one of India’s best batters in the ODI format in 2023 having scored 1060 runs from 27 matches with 2 centuries and 7 fifties with an average of 66.25 and a strike rate of 87.

Former Indian star Aakash Chopra while speaking on his YouTube channel said, “No.4 has become a revolving door as we had a different number 4 in every game. Why do you need to push someone like KL Rahul down to 6 or 7.”

Aakash Chopra also added, “Why don’t you fight from the front? India played KL Rahul for two games and then dropped him. It is interesting to think whether he in their plans since 2023 no one in the middle overs has scored as many runs as him.”

Rishabh Pant had a day to forget with the bat as he was out six when he was stumped by Maheesh Theekshana. The 26-year-old also missed an easy stumping towards the back end of the Sri Lankan innings.
