Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has recently opened up about Shubman Gill's poor form in the IPL 2024 ahead of their clash against the Punjab Kings, which is slated to take place on April 4 at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. However, the Gujarat Titans are currently in the fifth spot with two wins and one loss, but they will claim the spot in the top three if they beat the Punjab Kings in their fourth game of the IPL 2024.

However, Aakash Chopra feels that Shubman Gill can't get replaced, as he loved batting at Ahmedabad's ground despite coming from  Punjab. The well-renowed cricket commentator feels that Shubman Gill hasn't batted well in the three games that have been played so far. Notably, the stylish right-handed batter has just scored 75 runs in the three games, with a top score of 36.

"We cannot move away from Shubman Gill and shouldn't either because it is the  Ahmedabad ground. The love he has for the Ahmedabad pitch, I don't think he would have as much love for rajma chawal or butter chicken even though he comes from Punjab. However, he hasn't batted well thus far," Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

Shubman Gill will be my first player in focus: Aakash Chopra

The former India opener feels that Shubman Gill was superb in the IPL 2023, as he easily tackled the bowlers in Chennai and Mumbai; however, he failed to mark his impact in the  IPL 2024. Meanwhile, the cricketer turned analyst lauded Shubman Gill's pragmatic and tactical captaincy skills.

"Every time it has seemed like he is batting well, whether it was against Chennai in Chennai, or against Mumbai and Hyderabad, but the big knock is still missing. So Shubman Gill will be my first player in focus. He is captaining well, rotating his bowlers nicely, and is trying to figure out the designated roles, like who should bowl at the death," he added further.
