The Indian cricket team for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh is set to be picked soon. As per reports, the team is set to be picked after the first round of the Duleep Trophy 2024. The first round of matches is set to begin on Thursday and end on Sunday.

According to reports carried out by Sports Tak, Rishabh Pant is set to be in prime focus during the first round. The 26-year-old last played a Test match for India during the tour of Bangladesh in 2022. After this, Pant had a massive accident which ruled him out of action for over a year.

Sports Tak also stated that KL Rahul could likely miss the boat as far as selection is concerned. The 32-year-old hasn’t played Test cricket for India since suffering an injury post the Hyderabad Test vs England.

Focus on the Indian pace and spin unit for the Bangladesh series

Speculations are doing rounds that the Indian team is set to have three spinners for the Bangladesh series. With the first game being played in Chennai, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel will be joined by local lad Ravichandran Ashwin.

The trio will have a huge role to play not only with the ball but also with the bat if India has to win the series. Considering the high Bangladesh cricket is on right now, Ashwin in particular will have to be at his best.

According to Sports Tak, Dhruv Jurel will be the second wicketkeeper for India behind Pant. The youngster made a terrific debut for India during the England series and scored a match-winning knock during the Ranchi Test.

Mohammed Shami is yet to attain full fitness while Jasprit Bumrah has just started training. This would mean that the two players will most certainly be missing the series against Bangladesh.

In such a scenario, Mohammed Siraj will be the pacer who will be expected to lead the attack with the new ball. The 30-year-old isn’t playing in the Duleep Trophy 2024 tournament due to illness. The likes of Arshdeep Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, Avesh Khan, Akash Deep, and Harshit Rana will be closely looked at by the Indian selectors.
