Manchester Originals beat London Spirit by 12 runs during a key game in the Hundred tournament. Afghanistan pace bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi was the best for the visitors as he picked 3/24 from his 20 deliveries.

The best ball of the game was when Fazalhaq Farooqi bowled a terrific in-swinger to England batter Ollie Pope. The incident happened during the 6th ball of the chase as Farooqi got the ball to seam in with good speed and knocked the top of Pope’s middle stump.

The ball swung in so sharply that Pope didn’t have any chance to react and was beaten for pace. Ollie Pope nearly lost his balance while trying to get behind the line of the ball and prevent the wickets from being hit.

Manchester Originals coast home to an easy win

Manchester Originals batted first and lost opener Matthew Hurst early for 2. Richard Gleeson got rid of Hurst and was caught by Keaton Jennings. Phil Salt and Max Holden then added 94 runs for the 2nd wicket which came off 66 balls.

Phil Salt was in good form as he scored 58 runs from 41 balls with four boundaries and two sixes. Max Holden has scored 38 runs from 29 balls with three hits to the fence. Paul Watler with 15 not out and Wayne Madsen with 17 runs from 9 balls helped Manchester reach 135 runs from 100 balls.

Fazalhaq Farooqi then removed Michael - Kyle Pepper and Ollie while Daniel Lawrence was run out for a duck. At that stage of the innings London Spirit were placed 12/3 before Keaton Jennings and Shimron Hetmyer added 96 runs for the 4th wicket.

That stand was broken when Scott Currie got the wicket of Hetmyer caught by Phil Salt for 44. Andre Russell was then out as he was caught by Wayne Madsen off Fazal Farooqi for 1.

Keaton Jennings tried his best with the bat but couldn’t take his team home to a win. The left-handed batter was not out on 61 having played 50 balls with 6 hits to the fence. The match had no consequence for either of the teams as they both were eliminated from the tournament. For Manchester Originals it was their first win of the season which has seen them finish bottom of the table.
