Rishabh Pant was the man to watch with the bat during the opening day of the 2nd Test in Adelaide. The 27-year-old hit Mitchell Marsh for a four post which Justin Langer could be heard making a curious comment.
Langer was commentating along with Sunil Gavaskar and Mark Nicholas when he said, “Every time Rishabh Pant hits a boundary it makes me happy. Am I allowed to smile watching Rishabh Pant bat as an Australian? I have him now in my Lucknow Super Giants team.”
Justin Langer then added that the happiness stems from the fact that Pant is now part of his IPL side. Lucknow Super Giants purchased Rishabh Pant for INR 27 Crores during the Indian Premier League Auctions. This amount made Pant the costliest player in the history of the league going past 26.75 Crores paid by Punjab to buy Shreyas Iyer.
On the first day of the Adelaide Test, the former Australian batter and coach was heard saying, “This guy (Rishabh Pant) has haunted me in the last two tours but is now my favourite guy”. The 27-year-old had played a key role in each of India’s series wins in Australia in 2019/19 and 2020/21.
Rahul Dravid levies huge praise on Rishabh Pant
Former India skipper and coach Rahul Dravid made a huge comment while speaking about Rishabh Pant. The 51-year-old was in conversation with Star Sports recently and had spoken highly about India’s wicketkeeper and batter.
Rahul Dravid said, "I think Rishabh's was an incredible performance. Watching Rishabh there and chasing to get 89 to win that Test match at the Gabba, with everything on the line and such a depleted side, to put in that kind of performance under that kind of pressure, truly sensational. What a special cricketer he's been. He's just taken to Test cricket like a duck to water."
The former India coach also said, “It's just phenomenal. I mean, it's hard to imagine that, after Dhoni left, you felt there might be some time for someone to come in and replace him. I'm not saying he's replaced him, but certainly in Test cricket, his performances have been absolutely sensational."
