In the 2nd Test match against India, the Australian players were seen wearing black armbands to commemorate the 10th anniversary of remarkable batter Phil Hughes who passed away in November 2014. His life was tragically cut-shot after a deadly bouncer hit him during a Sheffield Shield Match. Sean Abbott was the bowler who delivered the bouncer, little did he know that it would hit him on the neck.
During the National Anthem of both teams, the commentator announced it, and the Australian players were seen wearing black armbands to pay tribute to the player. He was a talented young batter who played for Australia as well. His sudden death was a terrifying incident for the cricket fraternity from across the world. After his death, the helmet companies started putting in an extra layer of protection for the players.
In the ongoing 2nd Test match, Mitchell Starc dismissed the opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal, on the very first ball of the match, leaving the Indian players and fans in dismay. The 22-year-old batter was in brilliant form but was dismissed on a golden duck. KL Rahul and Shubman Gill handled the game pretty well, as India scored 30 runs in the first 10 overs.
There will be something in it for everyone: Rohit Sharma
After returning for the 2nd Test match, skipper Rohit Sharma gave a detailed analysis of the pitch at the toss. He confidently took the decision to bat first, after winning the toss. It was a good toss to win as the pitch conditions will keep on changing as the day progresses.
"Looks a good pitch, looks a bit dry at the moment, enough grass covering as well. It'll have some carry for the fast bowlers. As the game goes on, it'll get better to bat on. There will be something in it for everyone. It's going to be a good game," said Rohit Sharma at the toss.
