The highly anticipated Boxing Day Test between Australia and India is still three days away but the controversies are already heated up around the corner. It all started with the animated altercation of former India skipper and star batter, Virat Kohli with an Australian reporter for filming former’s children without his consent.
Following Kohli’s airport incident, Ravindra Jadeja’s ‘choice of language’ controversy with Australian media attracted attention. These two controversies drew many reactions from former cricketers, experts, and cricket fans.
In the same vein, former Australia batter Simon Katich has also expressed his opinion about the controversies surrounding star Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and former skipper Virat Kohli.
It’s probably just the mind games being played – Simon Katich
Katich felt that all these controversies are a sort of ‘mind games’ ahead of a high-octane Boxing Day Test between Australia and India in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
“Obviously, there’s been a few things unfolding in the last week or so that haven’t gone down well at that camp. It’s probably just the mind games being played, given the enormity of this series,” said Katich to Channel 7.
“The media are here to promote the game and I don’t know what the Indians are thinking at the moment. That’s their problem,” he added later.
Notably, the Indian and Australian media outlets are divided into multiple opinions over these controversies. The major Indian media outlets are targeting the hosts’ media for their unusual work ethics while treating the tourists in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
Coming back to the BGT 2024-25, the five-match Test series is currently levelled with the scoreline of 1-1 after three Tests. India defeated Australia by a massive margin of 295 runs in the opening Test in Perth following Australia’s huge 10-wicket win in the next Test at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide. The third Test at the Gabba in Brisbane ended in a draw due to the rain interruption at regular intervals in the game.
