Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has thrown his belief behind India to qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) finals. India are third in the table, with Australia in second and South Africa taking the top spot. With the series level going into the 4th Test match, India still has a chance to make it to the finals if they win the next two games.
Aakash Chopra took to his YouTube channel and mentioned that India has to win the series to entertain hopes of reaching the WTC Finals. The 47-year-old said that the draw in Gabba has worked out in favour of the visiting side ahead of the Boxing Day Test starting on 26th December.
The 47-year-old said, “India can definitely reach the WTC final. Of course, you need to win the series. The series cannot end in a draw. We will be out if the series ends in a draw. You had the chance of two wins and a draw before Gabba but since this game ended as a draw, you need to win the next two games.”
Aakash Chopra states India needs ‘Mircale’ to register series win
The former Indian star went on to add, “You will be able to leave here after winning the series 3-1. That would be absolutely miraculous because no one expected us to win in Perth, but we won there. We didn't perform well in the pink-ball Test match in Adelaide. We collapsed there but we somehow held on to a draw in Gabba.”
If India wins the next two games, they can finish in the top two spots in the table and end their WTC cycle on a high. This series score line will be enough to guarantee Rohit Sharma’s side to make it to the WTC Finals for a third time. In case the series is drawn, then India has to hope the other results go their way.
During the course of his chat on his YouTube show, Chopra made a huge statement on peculiar by Australia as far as Itinerary is concerned. “Rain did help us slightly in Brisbane, but Melbourne and Sydney are two grounds that favour us. Previously we used to go to the easier venues at the start, and there they used to fall behind in the series, but this time Australia said they would start from Perth and then go to Gabba, even though there is a forecast of rain there in the first three weeks of December.”
“They hosted the match early there with the thought that they would reach Melbourne 3-0 and would have already won the series. However, nothing like that happened. So there are full expectations. I feel it is still possible,” said Aakash Chopra
