The decision to bowl first after winning toss paid off for Ajinkya Rahane who saw his bowlers come good. Varun Chakravarthy and Moeen Ali combined well to bowl eight overs and gave away just 40 runs and also picked four wickets. Chakravarthy got the key scalps of Riyan Parag and Wanindu Hasaranga. Moeen Ali on the other got the wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Nitish Rana.

If it hadn’t been for Dhruv Jurel’s 33, the Royals could have been dismissed much earlier for a lower score. The young wicket keeper kept the runs ticking and played few shots before his innings was ended by Harshit Rana in the first ball of the 19th over. Vaibhav Arora and Harshit Rana picked two wickets each while Spencer Johnson got one wicket.

Riyan Parag breaks silence on RR’s second loss of the season

Rajasthan Royals’ skipper Riyan Parag spoke to the host broadcasters at the end of the game and said “I think 170 was a reasonable score but we fell short by 20 runs. The plan was to get Quinny out early but he didn't so we shifted to containing them in the middle overs”.

The 23-year-old also added “Last year the team wanted me to bat at No. 4 and I did that, and this time it's No. 3, so I need to be professional about it and I'm ok with it. We take the learnings and try not to repeat and come out against CSK with a fresher mindset”

The Royals will next host Chennai Super Kings in the third game of the season in Guwahati on Sunday. Kolkata Knight Riders will travel to Mumbai to take on five-time winners Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday.
