'I was waiting to meet you,' - Deepti Sharma upon meeting Narendra Modi

The Indian Women's Team, which won the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025, met the Indian Prime Minister. Narendra Modi interacted with Deepti Sharma and asked the Player of the Tournament Winner about the way the team celebrated.

The star All-rounder claimed she wanted to meet him because of how he had motivated the team after losing the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup in 2017. While she said the team members indeed enjoyed the win, Deepti added that she was waiting to meet him.

The star player remembered what Modi had said to her after losing in the 2017 final, that the player who fails and learn from their mistakes is the ones who succeed.

"Sir, we enjoyed the day, but honestly, I was just waiting to meet you. I still remember what you told me in 2017—that the player who falls but learns to get up and walk again, overcoming their failure, is the one who succeeds. So don't stop working hard," Deepti recalled her conversation with the Indian PM eight years ago.

She claimed that it was an encouraging speech and helped her to be motivated. She claimed to listen to Modi's speeches and added that his calmness inspires her. The star player said she tries to bring calmness to her game.

"That one word or encouragement has always motivated me. I keep listening to your speeches. The way you stay cool and calm inspires me. I try to bring that into my game," Deepti added in her statement upon visiting the Indian PM.
