In a recent piece of news, The Patan High Court declared the former Nepal skipper Sandeep Lamichhane ‘innocent’ in a rape case against him. The Patan High Court overruled the decision of the Kathmandu District Court that declared Lamichhane ‘Guilty’ in the hearing of the same rape case.

Earlier in the case, the court ordered the punishment of an 8-year-jail after he was accused and found ‘guilty of raping a minor, but now the Cricket Association of Nepal can pick him in the national squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024, in the USA and West Indies.

In the previous ruling of the Kathmandu High Court, Lamichhane was slapped with a monetary fine of Rs 2,00,000 as compensation to the victim, alongside a fine of Rs 3,00,000. But after getting proven ‘innocent’, he will not be liable to pay any fine or compensation.

“The High Court Patan has overturned the ruling of the Kathmandu District Court, declaring Sandeep Lamichhane innocent,” read the post of Cricket Association of Nepal from their official X handle (formerly Twitter).

These allegations and the District Court’s decision against him kept Lamichhane away from competitive cricket, especially the national squad of Nepal.

However, the recent developments state that he is highly likely to make a comeback for Nepal in international cricket. The former skipper has also got the green signal to be picked in the national squad for the upcoming prestigious cricket biennial starting on June 1 in the USA and West Indies.

Nepal are placed with Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, South Africa, and the Netherlands in the Group D of the tournament. They will start their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign on June 4 with their campaign opener against the Netherlands.
