Former India cricketer and Yuvraj Singh’s father, Yograj Singh, has come up with yet another eyebrow-raising statement. Yograj has been in the news for the last few months for his various statements that have caught the public's eye. During his chat with Cricketnext, Yograj said that Arjun Tendulkar has the potential to be the next Chris Gayle if the youngster were handed over to his son Yuvraj Singh for a few months.

Yograj said, “With regards to Arjun, I said, focus less on his bowling and more on his batting. But if Yuvraj – he and Sachin are so close – takes Sachin's son under his wings for three months, I bet he will become the next Chris Gayle. Often, it happens that a fast bowler, if he undergoes a stress fracture, cannot bowl as effectively. I think that Arjun should be handed over to Yuvraj for a while."

Yuvraj Singh is famous for his mentoring skills and has worked closely with the likes of Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill. The former India legend has been in the past, making Abhishek practice hard in the nets. Yuvraj had praised the young batter for his amazing ton against the Punjab Kings in the ongoing IPL season.

How did Yuvraj turn around Abhishek’s career? Yograj reveals

In a recent chat with News 18 Punjab, Yograj Singh revealed how Yuvraj’s strict discipline changed Abhishek Sharma. The former India player revealed, “Late night parties... girlfriend. What happened then? Yuvraj said, 'Lock him. ' He came under Yuvraj Singh's wings as his father couldn't handle him. Yuvi shouted, 'Where are you?'. I heard him shout. 'It's 9 pm, go to bed. Do you understand me? I am coming.' He then handed over the phone and went to bed. Yuvi then told his father to wake him up at 5 am."

Yograj also added, “This is exactly what happened with Shubman Gill. But then what happened? When the diamond lands in the hands of another diamond, what becomes of it? It turns into Kohinoor, and that's what happened with Abhishek Sharma. If this diamond had gone into the wrong hands of a spade, it would have broken and scattered. Many players in India broke and scattered."

Arjun Tendulkar is currently with the Mumbai Indians and is yet to play a game this season. The 25-year-old has played five games in the IPL, taking three wickets and scoring 13 runs with the bat. Tendulkar plays for Goa in the domestic circuit and has scored a century in the first-class format to show glimpses of his abilities with the bat.
