Indian cricket team coach aspirant Gautam Gambhir is set to be given a free hand over team selection issues. One of the other big developments is the fact that the Indian board has also given Gambhir full rights over his support staff selections.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already decided to rest their three main players for the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. Regular skipper Rohit Sharma, along with Virat Kohli and fast bowling sensation Jasprit Bumrah, will not be part of the three-match ODI series starting in a few weeks.

With India playing very less ODI matches the move has baffled a few fans. The Men in Blue will be next looking forward to the Champions Trophy 2025 tournament which is set to be held in Pakistan.

Gautam Gambhir in Kolkata to say his goodbyes

Former Indian star Gautam Gambhir is in Kolkata to say his goodbyes to the Kolkata Knight Riders team. The 42-year-old is set to announce his exit as the team mentor just one season after taking charge.

It was the presence of Gautam Gambhir that led the Kolkata Knight Riders to their third IPL title. KKR defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in the finals of the tournament to capture their title for the first time in a decade.

Gautam Gambhir, along with WV Raman, were invited for interviews by the BCCI for the Indian coaching position. Rahul Dravid, who has stepped down as the coach, will be replaced by Gautam Gambhir as per reports.

VVS Laxman is currently the coach of the Indian team for their tour of Zimbabwe. It is expected that Gautam Gambhir will be joining his new role during the Sri Lankan tour later this month.

Former Indian Gautam Gambhir, after his retirement, took some time away from the game due to political commitments. The 42-year-old then became the mentor of the Lucknow Super Giants where he served the role for two years. That stint was ended when he agreed a move to KKR before the start of the IPL 2024 season after discussions with team owner Shah Rukh Khan.
