It has been confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that skipper Rohit Sharma won't travel to Pakistan. With just weeks left before the start of the Champions Trophy 2025 tournament, the opening ceremony and captain’s photoshoot were set to be held in Pakistan. Indian Cricket Board has also confirmed that the name of the host nation will not be printed on their jerseys.
One BCCI source while speaking to Times of India has revealed that they have requested the opening ceremony to be moved to Dubai. “ICC has already accommodated India's request not to schedule its Champions Trophy matches in Pakistan, so these are minor issues,"
Just a few days ago one PCB source angrily hit out at BCCI and said “The BCCI is bringing politics into cricket, which is not at all good for the game. They refused to travel to Pakistan. They don't want to send their captain to Pakistan for the opening ceremony. Now there are reports that they don't want the host nation's Pakistan name printed on their jerseys. We believe that the world governing body will not let this happen and support Pakistan”
Ajinkya Rahane backs Rohit to find lost form
Mumbai skipper Ajinkya Rahane spoke to the media before their penultimate match of the Ranji season against Jammu and Kashmir starting on Thursday. Rohit Sharma has confirmed his availability for the game to find his form with the bat. Yashasvi Jaiswal is also set to be part of the game as the defending champions look to book their place in the next round.
Rahane while speaking to the media said “See, Rohit is Rohit, Aapko bhi pata hai uska character. I am really happy to have both of them (Rohit and Jaiswal) back in the Mumbai dressing room. He (Rohit) has always been relaxed. Even playing at the international level, his character is similar. His attitude is pretty much relaxed. He knows his game really well so no one can tell him what he needs to do”
Mumbai’s skipper also added “What is important is that he is hungry, he is determined to do well, I am sure once he gets in, he will get a big one. He batted really well yesterday in a couple of sessions so it’s part and parcel of a player’s career. I am really confident about Rohit. I think he is only playing this game; not sure about the next game. His inputs in the next four days will be important”
