The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have finally released the much-awaited squad for the upcoming Sri Lanka series. There have been some significant changes in the team. Now that Gautam Gambhir is the head coach of the Indian team, these changes were expected.

One big surprise element was Suryakumar Yadav taking over the T20I's captaincy. He replaced Rohit Sharma who has announced his retirement from the T20Is after winning the recently concluded World Cup in West Indies. Notably, Hardik Pandya was Rohit's deputy in the T20 World Cup 2024 and it seems team management and the new coach have decided to go ahead with a fresh name.
Meanwhile, In the ODI squad, all key players are back with Rohit Sharma taking charge. Young batter Shubman Gill will be his deputy. He will also be India's vice-captain in T20Is. Notably, Gill recently led India to a 4-1 win over Zimbabwe in T20I format.
Notably, Shreyas Iyer has also made a comeback to the national team after being punished in March 2024. Pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been rested from the tour considering the upcoming five-Test match home season against Bangladesh and New Zealand.
