Indian squad had a fantastic Thursday which began with an interaction with Indian PM Narendra Modi in New Delhi. This was followed by their trip to Mumbai where they took part in the Victory Parade celebrations.

Virat Kohli praises Rohit Sharma during victory parade

Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli while speaking during the victory parade said, “This is the first time in 15 years that I have seen Rohit show so much emotion. When we were climbing those steps (at Kensington Oval) he was crying and I was crying.”

Virat Kohli also said, “I hope we (Rohit and I) have carried the burden and no better to bring it (trophy) back here (Wankhede). "Halfway through the game I knew it it was time and let the next generation take over.”

When asked to speak about the difference between the 2011 and 2024 wins, Kohli said, “I couldn't connect with the emotions of the senior players who cried that night but now I do.”

The former Indian skipper also had huge words of praise for fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah when he said, “At one time I also felt that 'man is it going to slip away again'. But what happened in those five overs, two of which were bowled by Jasprit Bumrah was truly, truly special. What I would like everyone is to applaud a guy who brought us back into games, again and again in this tournament.”

Finally, Kohli ended by saying, "I am thinking of signing a petition to declare Jasprit Bumrah as a national treasure. Will you sign it?" "I will sign it right now. Bumrah is a once-in-a-generation  player and so glad he plays for us.”
