ENG vs IND Manchester Test: Anshul Kamboj added to squad, Akash Deep likely to be rested (X)
Overview
- Anshul Kamboj has been added as a cover to the Indian squad, following Arshdeep Singh's injury
- Jasprit Bumrah is likely to play the Manchester Test, as India trails 1-2 in the series
- Akash Deep could be rested for the fourth Test due to his workload management
There are reportedly some changes in the Indian unit ahead of the fourth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 in Manchester. Arshdeep Singh, who suffered an injury, could be replaced by Anshul Kamboj as a cover for the remainder of the series, while Akash Deep could be rested as part of the workload management. Jasprit Bumrah is reportedly set to play the Test at Old Trafford.
India trails 1-2 with two matches to go in the series, as they lost at Lord's by 22 runs to the home side. With a gap of over a week between the third and the fourth Test, the Indian team could decide to play Bumrah in Manchester. The scenario could have been different had India won at the Home of Cricket.
Akash Deep could be rested for the fourth Test as part of workload management. While it doesn't make a lot of sense, the decision could open a spot for a bowler to get a chance at Old Trafford. One of Kuldeep Yadav and Anshul Kamboj could get a chance to play in Manchester.
Will Karun Nair get dropped from the Manchester Test?
Kamboj has replaced Arshdeep in the squad after the latter got cut on his bowling arm in an attempt to catch the ball in the practice Test. After performing well in the second Unofficial Test against England Lions last month, Kamboj was rewarded with his call-up as a cover.

Rishabh Pant, who suffered a finger injury in the third Test, is available for selection in the fourth Test. However, since his finger hasn't recovered completely, Pant is likely to play as a specialist batter. Hence, Dhruv Jurel is likely to get a chance in the XI, which would mean Karun Nair potentially getting dropped.
