Former Australian cricket great Allan Border has warned the home side ahead of the second Test match in Adelaide. The 69-year-old was speaking on SEN Radio where he warned the Aussies about Virat Kohli’s form after his century in Perth. India’s former skipper scored his 30th Test century during the second innings of the first Test.

Allan Border said, “I was really disappointed in the way we let Kohli roll on to a hundred without much resistance, we don’t want this guy full of confidence for the rest of the series.” Virat Kohli moved level with the great Sir Donald Bradman after his century during the first Test match.

Former Australian opener Matthew Hayden seemed to agree with Border’s views. The former left-handed opening batter while speaking to Channel 7 said, “They missed a few tricks with Virat Kohli in the early part of his innings. You can’t cut a sucker an even break when a bloke is under pressure as he was. The field placements made it too easy for him to get off strike early.”

Matthew Hayden while speaking about Yashasvi Jaiswal went onto saying, “Jaiswal looked vulnerable against it. Maybe tiny things with Pat Cummins he ability to think through these decisions, they were shell-shocked from the average batting performance in the first innings.”

Former cricketers send warning signs to Australia

Michael Vaughan sounded the warning bell to the Australian during his appearance on the Club Prairie podcast. The former England skipper said, “That’s an ominous sign for Australia that he’s found form.” The century by Kohli helped India set Australia huge target of 534 to win and win the game by 295 runs.

Vaughan also added, “I mean, in the first innings, he came out of his crease and was trying to get close to the ball one bounce. I thought, well, that’s a bit dangerous at Perth. In the second innings, the pitch quietened down, he came in in a good position, but his movements are perfect for these wickets.”

“When the ball comes on, he’s got that lovely punch through the offside. He was keeping his balance to work on the onside and anything slightly short, you know, he was whipping onto that pulled shot, the hook shot. Against Nathan Lyon, he just had a very simple game plan, just work it on the onside with the spin. Played a couple of sweep shots, actually. You don’t see him sweep the ball too often,” Quipped Michael Vaughan.

In the same podcast, Adam Gilchrist that 20 wickets falling within the first four sessions helped Virat Kohli. “I think that the double innings collapse in the first innings of both teams worked in Virat’s favour. He looked like he came out probably a little bit too, trying to be a bit too authoritative in the first innings, he was buzzing, he was all about it, his energy was right up the Richter scale.”

The former Australian star also added, “He got nipped out like a lot of them did, but I think that just had a chat with him after that next morning and he said, oh, yeah, so disappointed getting out. But then by the end of the day, you realise that’s not a big failure compared to a lot of things that happened in that day.”
