In just under 48 hours some of the biggest names in world cricket will go under the hammer in Jeddah. Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auctions are set to take place on Sunday and Monday with 574 names in the mix. The likes of Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Jos Buttler, and Mitchell Starc are some of the names set to headline the proceedings.

All ten sides had chosen their players to be released and retained on 31st October 2024. Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings have the highest purse left along with the Right to Match cards. One of the other features that season of the IPL has seen is the return of the uncapped player rule. 

MS Dhoni was retained for INR 4 Crores by Chennai Super Kings as an uncapped player. Some of the other uncapped players included Harshit Rana despite his Test debut for India against Australia in Perth recently. James Anderson has made himself available for the IPL 2025 auctions for the first time in his legendary career.

Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auctions will be held across two days. This is the final time the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, R. Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja could be getting long-term retention contracts. 
What are the rules for IPL Auction 2025?

Marquee players will be presented first for the teams to bid for. The players presented will be a mix of International and Indian cricket stars. This will be followed by uncapped marquee players being presented for teams to choose from. The process will go on till the players requested by the teams aren’t brought. 

What is the Right to Match card in IPL Auction 2025?

The Right to Match (RTM) cards are given to teams who haven’t retained all six players on their side. Any team can buy back a player of their choice by using the card. For example, if Chennai Super Kings have their bid for Rishabh Pant successfully accepted then Delhi Capitals can use their RTM Card. Chennai Super Kings will also be given a second bite at the cherry to up the bid and tussle for the player during the course of the proceedings.

What does accelerated process mean during IPL Auction 2025?

After the completion of the marquee players list which includes 116 players, the accelerated process begins from player number 117. Teams can name the players they want to include as a part of the auction. Any player ranked from number 117 to 574 can be called for auction. 

Can teams bid for unsold players during IPL Auction 2025?

Each of the teams can also decide to recall any unsold player from the marquee list or the accelerated process. This will happen under the jurisdiction of the IPL committee and will be notified to the auctioneer. 

Who is the host for IPL Auctions 2025?

Noted auctioneer Malika Sagar will host the event for the second year in a row. Some of the notable auctioneers have been Richard Madley and Charu Sharma in the past few seasons. Malik Sagar will oversee the proceedings on both days.
