The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) announced that Abhishek Nayar has joined their coaching staff for the remaining Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. KKR posted on social media to announce Abhishek Nayar's return to the KKR coaching staff.

During the 2024 season, when the team won its third IPL trophy, Nayar was an assistant coach for the team.  Earlier this week, Nayar and fielding coach T. Dilip were removed from their positions as assistant coaches for the Indian men's national team. When Rahul Dravid was replaced as head coach by Gautam Gambhir in 2024, Nayar had joined the squad.

Following the Indian Premier League's 2024 season, Nayar was awarded a position on the India squad. After a proven track record of assisting players like Rohit Sharma, Dinesh Karthik, and Rinku Singh in regaining their form at different levels of cricket, Nayar joined Gautam Gambhir's support team.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India decided to remove three members of the coaching staff,  Abhishek Nayar (batting coach), T Dilip (fielding coach), and Sohum Desai (strength and conditioning coach), following the Indian team's terrible Test-format performances. The Indian team suffered terrible defeats against Australia and New Zealand in the 2024–25 season.

The only remaining members of the new coaching staff are Ryan Ten Doeschate, Morne Morkel, and Gautam Gambhir. Those three are joined by Sitanshu Kotak, who joined the Indian team before the Champions Trophy. Sitanshu came from the National Cricket Academy of VVS Laxman to join the team.

Abhishek Nayar could lift the spirits of the KKR players

The return of Abhishek Nayar could lift the spirits of the KKR players, who have been having trouble at the bat this season. For several years, Abhishek Nayar has worked closely with the KKR players, assisting them in discovering treasures like Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Rinku Singh. Currently KKR are in sixth spot with three wins from seven games. KKR's next game is against Gujarat Titans on Monday.
