The first two balls of the final over just produced three runs with Stoinis on strike. The Australian batter then hit the third ball of the over for a huge six over the mid-wicket region. Stoinis then repeated the same shot as the ball flew over the fence for the second six of the over.

In the fifth ball of the over, Shami bowled a slower ball that Stoinis hit over the long-on region for a six. Having hit 21 off the first balls, Stoinis had put Shami under huge pressure. In the final ball of the over, Shami went round the wicket and bowled a low full-toss that was hit over fine leg for a six. The veteran Australian batter pumped his fists as the camera panned to Kavya Maran who had a shocked look on his face.

Shreyas Iyer’s knock powers PBKS to huge total

Punjab began well as openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh scored 66 runs in just 23 balls. Arya who had hit a century in the last game scored 36 off just 13 balls before he was dismissed by Harshal Patel in the final ball of the fourth over. Prabhsimran Singh was the next man to go as he was dismissed by Eshan Malinga for 42.

Skipper Shreyas Iyer led from the front with the bat as he hit 82 runs which the highest score for PBKS. The 30-year-old scored his runs off just 36 balls with the help of six boundaries and six maximums. Stoinis was not out 34 off just 11 balls with the help of one boundary and those four sixes off Shami.

Speaking at the mid-innings break, Stoinis said “Nice to make a contribution, a little cameo from me there. There was a bit of spin and bounce. It's a very good score, depends on how we start in the powerplay and how we finish”
