In the 1960s and early 1970s, they produced great cricketers like Barry Richards, Graeme Pollock, Mike Procter, and many others. Since readmission in the 1990s, South Africa has produced many great batters, bowlers, All-rounders, and wicketkeepers. Some of the greatest cricketers like Jacques Kallis, AB De Villiers, Allan Donald, Dale Steyn, and others have played for South Africa.

It's no surprise that bowlers win Test matches and major tournaments. The role of a bowler in a team is huge, as they're the ones who take wickets and ensure that the batting units get bundled. Over the years, the Proteas have produced some terrific bowlers, especially the faster ones.

Kagiso Rabada

Kagiso Rabada is a modern-day great pacer. The star pacer could end his Test career as one of the greatest red ball bowlers of all-time. In the history of Tests, he's among the greatest wicket taking bowlers. While his white ball record isn't as formidable, he can trouble the batters with his skill sets.

Shaun Pollock

Shaun Pollock wasn't as fast, but was highly accurate. In Tests, he remained South Africa's leading wicket taker for nearly a decade. He's still their leading wicket taker in ODIs, with close to 400 wickets to his name. By the time T20Is became a thing, Pollock was well past his prime.

Morne Morkel

Morne Morkel was fast, could swing the ball, and trouble the batters with his height and extreme pace. As a non new-ball bowler, he has a great record across formats. Morkel played a key role in South Africa being the best Test team in the late 2000s and the early 2010s. He even had a very good record in T20Is, especially in the T20 World Cups.

Dale Steyn

Dale Steyn is amongst the greatest pacers the sport has ever seen. Skillfully, he was strong given his swing bowling ability at a fast pace. He was great even in LOIs, due to the accuracy in delivering yorkers. Steyn had a great career across formats and might hence be regarded the greatest all-format bowler of all time despite his injury prone career.

Allan Donald

Allan Donald was a revolutionary pacer, who made the headlines in the South African team since their readmission in the 1990s. He has a terrific record in both Tests and ODIs. Donald had one of the best actions for a pacer and bowled at a high pace. Had he got a chance to play slightly earlier, Donald could've claimed a lot more wickets than he eventually did.
