Zion Williamson had New Orleans Pelicans fans cheering and jumping out of their seats as he drove down the lane on the dribble and completed a game-tying layup against Lakers great Anthony Davis. Moments later, the Pelicans star forward was seen tossing a towel to the court in disdain before disappearing into a tunnel leading to the locker room.

Zion Williamson's 40-point, 11-rebound performance in his postseason debut ended in a disappointing manner for both him and New Orleans on Tuesday night. A left leg injury forced him to miss the last three minutes of a 110-106 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference play-in round. Williamson has played a career-high 70 games in 2023-24 while remaining mostly healthy.

According to AP News, CJ McCollum stated “This is an unfortunate situation.” “He was having a great game. We’re getting down the stretch of a highly important game where he’s dominating and leaving his imprint in all phases. And he ends up having to leave the game early.”

Zion Williamson missed many games due to injury

Zion Williamson, who has already missed most of his first four seasons due to knee, hand, foot, and hamstring problems, finished the regular season in pretty decent shape in his fifth year as a pro. He appeared in 70 games and led the New Orleans Pelicans in 49 wins. In the current NBA season, his average was 22.9 points per game.

Earlier in this month he again faced injury during the match against Orlando Magic as the team ended up losing 117-108.

New Orleans Pelicans had a good start in this season but injuries to big players kept coming. Important players like Ingram's injury came at a time when it was needed the most as the New Orleans Pelicans found themselves not getting into playoffs spot. However, the New Orleans Pelicans aim to come back strong next season, as they have a solid core and promising young players receiving their first experience in the NBA.

The Pelicans will visit the Sacramento Kings on Friday, with the winner claiming the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference.
