A three-pointer from Luka Doncic with Rudy Gobert guarding him at the top of the key with 3 seconds left gave the Dallas Mavericks a 2-0 lead over the Minnesota Timberwolves in Friday's Western Conference finals, allowing them to win 109-108 and take a 2-0 lead.

Luka Doncic had 32 points, 13 assists, and 10 rebounds for the Mavericks, who recovered an 18-point deficit late in the second quarter and trailed by 16 midway through the third. Naz Reid finished 7 for 9 from 3-point range for 23 points, but his final attempt at the buzzer rimmed in and out, sending the Wolves to Dallas for Game 3 on Sunday in a large hole following another off night for stars Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns.

Kyrie Irving scored 13 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter, including a corner 3-pointer with 1:05 left to bring the Mavericks within two. The Wolves then sandwiched turnovers around Doncic's short miss. With 13 seconds remaining, Edwards foolishly tossed the ball out of bounds after a drive, giving the Mavericks possession and the chance to win.

Doncic took the inbounds pass and dribbled to set up a screen by Dereck Lively II, which prompted the Wolves to switch, with NBA All-Defensive second-team choice Jaden McDaniels lowering with Lively's roll and Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert remaining on the top of the key.

Dallas Mavericks coaching staff praised Minnesota Timberwolves for their effort

From 10:50 to 1:29, neither team led by more than three points until Anthony Edwards, who had 21 points but was 11 for 33 in the series, hit two free throws for a 108-103 advantage. That happened shortly after Irving missed both foul throws, eliciting howls from the crowd in honor of the promotion, which offers a free Chick-fil-A lunch.

The coaching staff praised the Wolves for their effort and performance in between games, and they maintained their reputation as a good bounce-back team despite falling short a couple of times this season. Mike Conley Jr. kept the offence going crisply and deftly whenever he initiated.
