Basketball: Victor Wembanyama and Dillon Brooks caught a loose ball in the third quarter and started to fight, even though there were no fouls called on the play.

Following a dominant first half, the San Antonio Spurs prevailed 109-106 against the Houston Rockets. The Spurs will gladly accept the three-point victory, their first of the season, despite almost blowing their commanding lead of 22 points in the first half.

The home audience chanted "MVP" as Wembanyama concluded with 29 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks. He made two of his five three-point attempts for good measure. Jeremy Sochan had a fantastic evening, scoring a double-double of his own with 17 points.

Spurs fans were more concerned about Dillon Brooks, who finished with 16 points and made many baskets over Victor Wembanyama, even though Jalen Green led the Rockets with 29 points. The two became caught on a loose ball in the third quarter, even though there were no fouls called on the play.

San Antonio Spurs were leading the game

Alperen Sengun has been compared to Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren as one of the NBA's best young centers, but his six points in Saturday's game show that he is lagging behind the Spurs' possible All-Star.  Reed Sheppard was selected by the Rockets as the third overall choice in the 2024 NBA Draft, however, he did not score any points. Despite Tre Jones' injury, Stephon Castle was instrumental, contributing eight points, three assists, and a few of his own highlights to the game.

In their home opener against the Houston Rockets, the San Antonio Spurs prevailed 109-106 on Saturday night thanks to 29 points from Victor Wembanyama, 17 points and 12 rebounds from Jeremy Sochan, and a strong defense. The game was very chippy and aggressive after the Spurs claimed to view the Rockets as a younger sibling, and tensions were running high. Despite the close game, the Spurs demonstrated their superiority, but Houston will have plenty of chances to win. The two teams will face off against each other three times over the next two weeks, including Monday night.
