This season will provide a new challenge for the Los Angeles Lakers with a new coach and system, but for LeBron James, who is starting his 22nd season, things will go as normal. James's NBA career longevity can be partially explained by the impressive physical shape he displayed in a training video, which astounded fans.

The oldest player in the league will turn 40 in December, yet he is still one of the finest players in the world. LeBron James proved this by winning the Olympic MVP award at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. In addition to being named the Olympic MVP, LeBron James consented to a $104 million, two-year contract deal with the Lakers, which freed up the front management to recruit more free players to bolster the team. However, the Lakers have only chosen Dalton Knecht who, to be fair, seems like he might potentially play a large amount of NBA minutes and Bronny James thus far. They just recruited JJ Redick instead of Dan Hurley.

As things stand, the Lakers are a real playoff contender. They may even be a top-four seed in the Western Conference if everyone is fit and playing at their best. Still, the squad is far from a title contender given their stark limitations in perimeter defense and rebounding. Despite their high point totals, D'Angelo Russell and Austin Reaves also have a commensurate quantity of turnovers, which is generally tolerable when Anthony Davis is opposing them.

Davis can cover mistakes and overcome mismatches because he is such a defensive beast. However, the problem is that he exhausts himself so much on defence that his offence marginally diminishes, and his tendency to get injured is caused by his frequent mauling of opponents in the post.

Meanwhile, this NBA is special for LeBron James as his son Bronny James was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers during the NBA 2024 Draft. This is the first time in the NBA that a father-son duo is playing on the same team.
