Following their match on Tuesday night, the Los Angeles Sparks (7-31) and Phoenix Mercury (18-20) both have one more regular season game left. Phoenix will undoubtedly start as the seventh seed in the WNBA playoffs. About their record, Los Angeles is the worst in the league.
Even if there isn't much at stake for either club between now and the end of the regular season, Tuesday's first half did not reflect that. With 18.8 seconds left in the second quarter, Sparks forward Rickea Jackson and Mercury centre Brittney Griner almost got into a fight on the floor after Jackson made a free throw.
Jackson left the game with eight points in twenty minutes, while Griner finished the game with 14 points in fourteen minutes. The WNBA may discipline the two players, so it will be fascinating to watch what happens following this confrontation. Although Jackson would have to pay a fine or face suspension, her local audience gave her a warm reception. They both got ejected after the fight.

Before the argument got out of hand, the officiating crew was able to intervene. After the initial encounter, both players appeared ready to strike each other, but the referees and security intervened.
Brittney Griner has been into WNBA All-Star and has a WNBA title to her name
After spending 14 seasons in the NBA, Matt Barnes was not a fan of Griner taking the bait from fans in the comment area. He responded to the former Baylor Bears player in his own words. Griner has been with the Mercury for twelve seasons. Griner has been recognized as a ten-time WNBA All-Star and has won a WNBA title throughout her career. In addition, she has three gold medals from the Olympics; the most recent one was earned in Paris in 2024.
