Star forward Cam Reddish is set to return to the Los Angeles Lakers for the 2024-25 NBA season, having exercised his $2.5 million player option. This marks his second consecutive season with the Lakers, a team that initially signed him for depth ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.
Reddish's first season with the Lakers had moments of promise, particularly in November when he achieved four consecutive games with double-digit scoring. Unfortunately, his momentum was hampered by an ankle injury, limiting his impact.
In 48 appearances, he averaged 5.4 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.0 steals, and 1.0 assists per game, with shooting percentages of 38.9% from the field and 33.6% from three-point range. Reddish, a former Duke standout and the 10th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, has had a turbulent professional journey.

Drafted by the Atlanta Hawks, he entered the league alongside notable peers like Zion Williamson, Ja Morant, and Darius Garland. However, despite high expectations, Reddish struggled to find consistency. Over his tenure with the Hawks, he averaged 11.1 points and 3.4 rebounds per game, with shooting splits of 38.5% from the field and 32.9% from deep.
Midway through his third season, Reddish was traded to the New York Knicks, where he failed to secure a regular spot in Tom Thibodeau's rotation. Subsequently, he was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers as part of a deal that brought Josh Hart to New York. His stint with the Trail Blazers was brief, playing just 20 games in the 2022-23 season before the Lakers took a chance on him as a free agent.
At just 24 years old, Reddish's career is still in its formative stages. Despite the setbacks, he possesses significant potential.
