The stats of Doncic were displayed on the screen and he looked to be a deserving candidate. Along with him, three others made it to the top 4 of the nominations. Jayson Tatum from the Boston Celtics, Nicola Jokic from the Denver Nuggets, and Shai G-Alexander came close to bagging the award. But Luka was better than all in the given season.

Luka had an average of 33.9 points per game, which was insane. Additionally, he had a total of a whopping 9.8 assists per game. The star player claimed a total of 21 triple-doubles for the Mavericks. All of these were his best in a single season of the NBA. In the process, he became one of the fewest non-Americans to win the unique award.
The fans took to the comments section and gave their opinion on the pick. Many felt he was the deserving candidate to win the award. But some felt there were better candidates to win it.
