A new member of the NBA's $300 million club has emerged in the shape of Jayson Tatum. It was reported on Monday that the Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum had agreed to a five-year, $314 million contract extension with the reigning NBA champions.

This new agreement, which has not been made public, would start with the 2025–2026 season and keep the five-time All-Star in Boston until the 2029–2030 season, the source who spoke on condition of anonymity said. When it is all said and done, Jaylen Brown, Tatum's teammate, will have signed a five-year contract for up to $304 million, making his new supermax deal the highest in NBA history.

Jayson Tatum earned All-NBA first-team honors for the third straight season, averaging 26.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and a 47% field goal percentage. Those figures increased to 25 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game during a playoff run in which he scored more than 30 points six times, including 31 in the championship-clinching Game 5 victory against Dallas Mavericks.

He hopes to add to his hardware this summer as a part of the United States men's basketball team, which is attempting to win its fifth straight gold medal. Tatum previously earned a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

Boston Celtics other players signed contracts for next season

Tatum's agreement was announced on the same day that fellow Celtics starter Derrick White allegedly signed a four-year, $126 million contract extension. All five of Boston's starters -- Tatum, Brown, White, Jrue Holiday, and Kristaps Porzingis had already signed contracts for next season. With Tatum and White's new contracts, they might be together until at least the 2025-26 season.

The deal also occurred shortly after the Celtics ownership group, led by Wyc Grousbeck, announced plans to sell all of its shares by 2028. Boston Celtics is anticipated to have a total payroll and luxury tax of more than $400 million when Tatum's contract begins.
