Kevin Durant (Source: Bleacher Report)
Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant will undergo another surgery in two weeks following his left leg injury on Friday, according to Shams Charania of ESPN. Durant played 37 minutes as the Phoenix Suns defeated the Dallas Mavericks 114-113 on Friday.
The 36-year-old Kevin Durant had already made a name for himself as an MVP contender after nine games this season, averaging 27.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. The 14-time All-Star was hampered by a left calf injury, but he helped guide the team to a gold medal at the Olympics in Paris this summer.
With an 8-1 record and an average of 27.6 points per game, the future Hall of Famer has had a great start to the season, helping the Suns take first place in the Western Conference. The only players this season average at least 25 points per game and shoot 55% from the field and 40% from three are him and Nikola Jokic. Durant has averaged 27.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game while shooting 42.9 percent from three-point range and 55.3 percent from the field during the team's scorching 8-1 start.
Phoenix Suns will depend on Devin Booker and Bradley Beal
To maintain Phoenix Suns first seed in the Western Conference, fellow superstars Devin Booker and Bradley Beal will have to step up until Durant returns. Naturally, it would be very difficult to replace him in the Suns lineup. Bradley Beal and Devin Booker will have to shoulder more of the scoring and usage burden. With Kevin Durant gone, Royce O'Neale is expected to get increased court time at the four in order to replace his minutes.
They defeated the Dallas Mavericks 114-113 on Friday night when Kevin Durant sustained the injury. In 37 minutes, he ended with 26 points. On Sunday night, the Suns will play their first game without Durant when they host the Sacramento Kings.
