Once more, the Boston Celtics are the only NBA champions. Boston Celtics defeated Dallas Mavericks 106-88 on Monday night to win the team's 18th title, snapping a tie with the Los Angeles Lakers for the most in league history. Jayson Tatum had 31 points, 11 assists, and 8 rebounds.Β

On the sixteenth anniversary of winning its final Larry O'Brien Trophy in 2008, Boston won their most recent championship. One of the Big 4 professional sports teams in the city has won 13 championships this century.

Jaylen Brown tallied 21 points and was named NBA Finals MVP and Jrue Holiday recorded 15 points and 11 rebounds. Kristaps Porzingis also gave an emotional lift, scoring five points in 17 minutes after returning from a two-game layoff due to a dislocated tendon in his left ankle.

It helped the Celtics cap a postseason in which they went 16-3 and finished 80-21 overall. That 792 winning % is second in franchise history, trailing only the Celtics' 1985-86 championship squad, which ended 82-18. Joe Mazzulla, a 35-year-old second-year coach, became the youngest to win a title since Bill Russell in 1969.

Boston Celtics dominated the game

Dallas, who avoided a sweep with a 38-point victory in Game 4, was unable to prolong the series as Luka Doncic ended with 28 points and 12 rebounds. Luka Doncic has scored at least 31 points in each of the Mavericks' three previous Game 5 victories. Kyrie Irving, who departed the Boston Celtics team in the summer of 2019 to join the Brooklyn Netts, finished with just 15 points on 5-of-16 shooting.

Since then, he has lost 13 of the previous 14 games against the team. After falling 3-0 in a postseason series, NBA teams are now 0-157. Boston Celtics never fell behind and had a lead of up to 26 points, riding the enthusiasm of the Garden crowd.
